Larry's Original Mexican Restaurant
About This Spot
Stepping into Larry's Original Mexican Restaurant feels like entering a treasured neighborhood gathering spot where time slows just a bit, and the familiar warmth of homecoming settles in. Nestled along a quiet stretch in Richmond, this casual local eatery invites guests into an atmosphere that’s both laid-back and quietly bustling — the kind of place where families have shared plates for generations and where regulars exchange stories over familiar aromas and flavors.
The pace here is unhurried, the kind that encourages savoring each bite and moment, whether you’re settling in for a no-rush lunch or a relaxed breakfast. The soft clatter of dishes, laughter from neighboring tables, and the rhythmic hum of easy conversation create a backdrop that feels simple yet inviting. You can almost hear the history woven into every well-worn booth and the kindness echoed through the staff’s smiles and steady attention.
What makes Larry’s remarkable isn’t just the food — though here, classic Tex-Mex dishes come with a quiet confidence, grounded in tradition rather than trend. From the comforting embrace of freshly made flour tortillas to those generous plates of enchiladas and brisket tacos, each offering feels like a nod to the recipes and stories carried forward through decades. Drinks range from house favorites like mango margaritas to thoughtfully brewed iced teas, rounding out a meal meant to satisfy both appetite and heart.
More than a restaurant, Larry’s serves as a welcoming backdrop for everyday connections. Whether you’re here with family, friends, or simply enjoying a moment of pause, there’s an understated sincerity in the experience — a comforting reminder that good food and genuine hospitality still thrive in spaces where people gather for simple, honest company.

Y'all. I was reading a freaking 1 * review of this place and thought "wow. this person is really upset at this restaurant for just existing. It must be a reflection of who they are as a person and not actually of this fine dining establishment." Then I saw the person who wrote it was MY MOM. First of all, she's dead wrong. Her review has nothing to do with this restaurant and everything to do with her unhealed childhood trauma. If you think she's critical of Larry's, try being her daughter. Second, my husband and I cannot think of a better way to unwind after a workday than tucking into Larry's fresh hot salsa and delicious perfectly seasoned fajitas. Larry's has THE world's best cheese enchiladas. I've been getting their fajita taco dinner for 30 years and it tastes the exact same: perfection, the ultimate comfort food. Their caramelized onions are what taught me to love onions as a kid. The service is always exceptional and the staff is friendly and exceedingly professional. My husband and I love the ambiance, I hope they never change it, it's so relaxing. It's cool and quiet but not to quiet and perfectly dim but not dark. I cannot stress what a pleasurable sensory experience this place is for the easily overstimulated, especially after a long hard day. Larry's is a heart and soul Richmond institution and I hope they are for decades to come. It's where the locals eat, but anyone from the Greater Houston area in need of Tex-Mex excellence will not be disappointed, unless they are as unhealed as my mom. Dear Larry's family and staff: do not listen to her, y'all are killing it and just as good as you ever were! I would know, I've gone to y'all way more than she has in the last 30 years! Cannot wait for my next fajita taco dinner! Thank you for the great food and memories! ????????

One of my favorites. Have been coming here my whole life. A family run restaurant since the 1960s. The staff are amazing and make sure tips and dip are always on the table. My favorite every single time is the beef enchiladas you can't go wrong with them. The queso is amazing as well so try to order that when you come. Just very good hometown Tex-Mex that has been here for generations and hopefully many more generations to come.

Love the food. Our waiter was sweet and funny. Found out that Larry and Mama Nifa " Ninfa's " actually worked together many many moons ago. Small world.

Hard to beat a good plate of classic Tex Mex and Larry’s does a great job with that. Thin, crispy chips served with a flavorful salsa. Could be a little spicier, but still a solid salsa. I had the #1 lunch special. Cheese enchilada, crispy taco and queso tostada. Served with rice and beans. All tasty and served with a a smile. Wished I lived closer to come more often.
